Unlocking Firmer Skin: The Science Behind Altrient Vitamin C
A recent study explores the connection between a specialized liposomal Vitamin C food supplement and measurable properties of the skin, such as firmness and elasticity.
Introduction
A 4-week clinical study was recently conducted to observe the effects of Altrient® C, a liposomal Vitamin C supplement, on the skin. The investigation aimed to scientifically measure changes in skin firmness and elasticity, building upon the well-established role of Vitamin C in the body.
It is widely recognized that Vitamin C plays a key role in normal collagen formation. Collagen is the primary structural protein in the skin, providing the foundation for its firmness and elasticity.
Study Design and Methods
The placebo-controlled trial was carried out by Aspen Clinical Research, an independent organisation
specializing in clinical studies for the cosmetic and supplement industries.
- Participants: The study involved 60 individuals aged 31 to 65+ with skin showing age-related loss of firmness.
- Procedure: Participants were divided into two groups. For 4 weeks, one group consumed three sachets of Altrient C daily, while the other group took a placebo.
- Measurement: Skin firmness and elasticity were measured at the beginning, at day 14, and at the end of the 4-week period. These objective measurements were taken with a Cutometer MPA 580, a scientific instrument used to assess skin's physical properties.
Study Findings
The instrumental analysis revealed measurable changes in the skin of participants taking the liposomal Vitamin C supplement.
- After 4 weeks, the group consuming Altrient C showed a statistically significant average increase of 32.7% in skin firmness and elasticity measurements from their baseline.
- At the 2-week mark, this group had already shown an average increase of 15.1% in the same measurements.
- The group taking the placebo did not show a significant change in skin firmness or elasticity throughout the study.
Danny McCamlie, Lead Clinical Scientist at Aspen Clinical, noted, "We conducted this trial using industry- standard techniques to assess the skin-firming capabilities of an ingested dietary supplement. Our Cutometer assessments found that Altrient C produced a measurable increase in skin firmness and elasticity at both the 2 and 4-week checkpoints."
The Science of Vitamin C and Liposomal Delivery
Vitamin C is a vital nutrient with several key functions in the body. Beyond its important role in collagen production for healthy skin, Vitamin C is also an antioxidant that helps protect cells from oxidative stress.
The supplement used in this study, Altrient C, utilizes a liposomal delivery system. This technology
encapsulates the Vitamin C in a microscopic layer of essential phospholipids (fatty acids). This protective layer is designed to safeguard the nutrient through the digestive system, aiding its absorption and delivery within the body.
Expert Commentary
"Skin ageing is a multifactorial process influenced by genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors," said Dr. Sanjay Rajpara, dermatologist and cosmetic skin doctor. "The formation of free oxygen radicals is recognized as a key mechanism involved in skin ageing, and their production tends to increase with age. Vitamin C plays a role in the body's antioxidative defense system. While in vitro studies have demonstrated antioxidant effects of vitamin C, there is limited evidence from human studies. This clinical trial provides evidence of an improvement in skin elasticity in human subjects over a 4-week period using this liposomal vitamin C formulation. These findings contribute to the growing body of research on vitamin C and skin health."
Further Observations and Conclusion
In addition to the measured improvements in skin firmness and elasticity, some participants provided
subjective feedback regarding their general well-being. Vitamin C is scientifically recognized for its
contribution to the normal function of the immune system and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Abundance & Health has indicated its intent to conduct a longer-term trial to further observe the effects on skin properties over an extended period. This research adds to the growing body of knowledge on the relationship between targeted nutrition and skin health.
Altrient C: The New Generation of Vitamin C
Altrient C’s unique liposomal delivery system ensures that almost all of the vitamin C is delivered directly to the cells where it is needed most. The product can be added to beverages or taken directly with water.
